StonyFIELD Initiative with Stonyfield Yogurt
Organic Matters
Do your kids…
Roll down the hill at the park?
Run in the grass barefoot?
Kick around a soccer ball?
Sit on a picnic blanket in the park?
Play baseball?
If you’ve played, rolled or picnicked at a local field or park chances are it has been treated with pesticides. Honestly, it’s something I had never thought about.
I so carefully select organic products at our local grocery store, making sure that we have eggs from organic, cage free hens, milk from cows grazing on organic fields and host of other products that are all labeled organic. Why? Because I think that what we put in our bodies matters.
But what about WHERE we put our bodies? I mean certainly there are plenty of hazardous places that we just wouldn’t want to be. But a park? Would you think a park or a ball field is THE place to be? Maybe not.
StonyFIELDS Initiative
Stonyfield yogurt is championing a new initiative to clean up our local parks and playing fields with their StonyFIELDS initiative. They are taking their commitment to organic and extending it into the community, it’s not just about delicious yogurt anymore, it’s about a better quality of life.
Many of the pesticides used in field management have been shown by the International Agency for Research on Cancer to be potential carcinogens including, 2,4-D, Glyphosate and Dicamba. Making moves to change that, Stonyfield has partnered with Non Toxic Neighborhoods, Beyond Pesticides and Osborne Organic to empower community members to make a difference.
Stonyfield is starting right here in New Hampshire, helping communities in Dover and Portsmouth manage their playing fields and parks organically. They’ve also teamed up with local sports teams like the NH Ficher Cats to go organic with their field management too. They are the first professional sports team to go all organic and we had a chance to witness a game and watch Stonyfiled’s COO (Chief Organic Optimist), Gary Hirshberg throw out the first pitch!
In addition to these local communities, the StonyFIELD initiative taking action in communities across the country including Florida, Texas, California and more.
