5 Inspiring Podcasts to Listen to While Running
I don't run with music. I used to. But I always had to ask my husband what songs to put only playlist. "What's a good running song?" I'd ask. And he would fill my iPod shuffle for me. I like music, just not the kind of music that's good for running. So if I'm ever on the treadmill and in need of something to help pass the time I choose an audiobook or a podcast. Here are a few inspirational podcasts I've stumbled across and like listening to while running:
Run to the TopThis is one of my favorites, partly because my friend Tina is the host and her lovely British accent is so nice to listen to, but mostly because of it's great content. Tina interviews all kinds of people in the running community and you can learn so much as you listen. My favorite is her interview with Katherine Switzer, the first woman to run the Boston Marathon.
Precision NutritionMy husband turned me on to this one because he's been doing nutritional coaching with Precision Nutrition and listens to them daily. These podcast aren't just helpful in regards to nutrition, they are motivational as well. One of my recent favorites is the podcast questioning the view of food as fuel. Listen to it and it will change the way you think about food.
Bullet Proof Radio:This is a pretty well known and popular podcast by entrepreneur David Asprey, but is relatively new to me. You can take or leave some of the information provided in terms of how prescriptive you want it to be, but it definitely gets you thinking.
Peak Sports Sports Psychology Podcast:Since reading Gary Mack's book Mind Gym, I've been fascinated with the mental aspect of performance and competition. This podcast covers the mental aspects of athletes (and if you run you should consider yourself an athlete) in training and competition. Every single podcast is helpful, but right now I'm loving Show 165 which talks about how fear of failure can cause you to "choke" in competition.
Another Mother Runner Podcast:Dimity and Sarah always have a great inspirational story to share or helpful information in regards to running. Recently they interviewed Suzy Favor Hamilton, three time Olympian who's recent book Fast Girl: A Life Spent Running from Madness tells all about her mental illness and her time spent as an escort in Las Vegas. Whatever topic they are covering, the podcast is sure to inform, amuse and inspire.
