Dr. Cool Recovery Cooling Shirt Review

This post is sponsored by Dr. Cool Recovery, but all the opinions expressed here are based on my own experience with the product.

Back when there was still snow on the ground in New Hampshire, Dr. Cool Recovery sent me one of their new cooling shirts to review. Since my  "gym" is in my basement and it took forever for the warm weather to arrive this spring, I haven't had a chance to try it out until this past week, when a wave of heat and humidity came through our area making walking outside a sweat fest.

Last week I went out for a walk pushing two kids in the stroller and carrying one on my chest in the baby carrier. Wearing Liam, a little metabolic machine, in the carrier proved to be a great test of the shirts "cooling technology."

Dr. Cool Recovery, the makers of the patented Dr. Cool Ice Wrap (which I love and have reviewed here before), has created a cooling shirt that according to Dr. Cool "reduce[es] the fabric's surface temperature by up to 30%." Not only is the shirt wicking, but it's also designed to circulate moisture and regulate evaporation, keeping you cooler than the average t-shirt. And the shirts are chemical free.

The material itself has a lot more stretch and is softer than most "technical tee's" I've worn. Often times technical fabric doesn't have any give, but this fabric has a nice four-way stretch making it comfortable and flattering. The fit on the tee runs a little large so I requested an extra -mall instead of a small. And that seemed to fit well.

Four miles later I wasn't nearly as wet and sweaty as I was on our walk the day before wearing a cotton tank top. I'm not sure exactly what percentage I was cooler than previously, but I noticed that I didn't have the huge sweat spot where Liam had been strapped to my chest in the carrier. I'm pretty sure that was thanks to the wicking and evaporation technology of the cooling shirt.

Overall, I was really happy with the tee and I love the saying printed on the front and back, every injured runner can completely relate to the fact that no injury hurts worse "than being stuck on the couch" (the tees also come in solid colors as well). And at $32 it's not a bad buy considering many non-technical tees cost that much or more.  I'm looking forward to using this shirt throughout the summer as things heat up and I get back into running.

Do you wear technical tees when working out? How do you stay cool when you're forced to workout in hot weather?
