Five Year Blogging Anniversary: a jog back in time
I started this blog five years ago, back when I was a new mom and felt like I had something to say and no one to say it to. After teaching High School English since graduating college, the shift to being a stay at home mom was a bit of a change of pace for me. I found myself wanting a creative writing outlet as well as a place to document my return to running after a three year hiatus. And so the Runner Mom Chronicles was born, or at least that's what I called my little blog before it became RunFarGirl in 2012.
At the time Sophia was just four weeks old and most of my posts were about navigating life as a (sleepless) new mom. I didn't do much running or racing in 2010, and I didn't own a garmin or post my workouts. But what little I did do found it's way on to the pages of my blog. It was just about the blog then. I had no idea what Twitter or Instagram were and my only readers were my mom and a few of my close friends, and maybe a few other people who stumbled across my blog on Bloodspot (now Blogger).
I took a break from writing the Runner Mom Chronicles in 2011 to help my mom launch a little sewing business and returned to it shortly after finding out I was pregnant with my son, Jack in 2012. It was then that the Runner Mom Chronicles became RunFarGirl. The blog has opened up so many opportunities for me and been the source of some real and lasting friendships. It also provided a platform for me to make a big difference for the Children's Hospital at Dartmouth-Hitchcock and launch a line of running apparel. I'm grateful for what it has become.
Since so few of you "knew" me at that time I thought I'd share a few of my favorite posts, a bit of a jog down memory lane. Few of them have pictures, but they give you a glimpse into my life five years ago.
Beach Run (my first stroller run with Sophia) March 2010
Mom's Day 5K (my first race as a new mom) May 2010
The Perfect Day (my first race postpartum after having Sophia) May 2010
Orajel and Coffee (a glimpse in to life as a new mom) June 2010
Pimp my BOB (running in the rain and super cute photos of a very little Sophia) July 2010
Dreams (my return to running and my first marathon after a three year hiatus from running) October 2011
I hope you enjoyed looking back over the beginning of this blog:)
