Training Update

Thank you all for you input on whether or not I should wear my Garmin for the marathon. I've made my decision…I think. But you'll have to wait for that post-marathon wrist-pic to find out what I chose;) A brewing cold last week threw a bit of a wrench into my running, but I seem to be completely over it. It hit me on Monday and I immediately started pumping the Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc, fluids and sleep. My husband laughs at my efforts and says I'm just making expensive pee. Maybe it is a placebo affect and all the natural remedies lead me to believe I'm feeling better so I actually feel better? Mind over matter. Either way Monday night, in the middle of the night was the worst: sore throat, no sleep. But I woke up Tuesday feeling better than I had Monday afternoon. Tuesday was a rest day and then I ran Wednesday-Sunday. Wednesday was OK. Thursday I actually felt pretty tired on my run and the soreness was sort of more in my chest. More early bedtimes (like 8pm) and more Vitamin C, Zinc, and Vitamin D and fluids had me feeling pretty good by Friday and I'd say by Saturday afternoon (after a two hour nap!) I was feeling 100% back to normal. Phew. Glad it was last week and not this week. Here's how the miles break down for last week.

Monday: 7 easy miles

Tuesday: Rest day

Wednesday: 7 morning miles then 6x800 with 200m rest at the track. Goal was to not go faster than 3:15 for each 800. I went 3:12, 3:14, 3:18, 3:22 (I came through the 400 mark at 1:32 and thought woah slow down…and then slowed down too much), 3:13, 3:16. All the 800 felt good, smooth and relatively easy.

Thursday: 6 double stroller miles at 8:28 pace. I feel like that was too fast for an easy paced stroller run, but I don't really look at my watch when I'm running in the stroller so it's not like I'm pushing for that pace. I think that there must be some physics equation that would prove the fact that a certain pace is easy to maintain once you get going because you've got the momentum of the stroller going. I feel like any slower and it's actually harder to push the stroller.

Friday: 10 hilly miles. I felt dead for the first half but then realized that the route I was running mimics the marathon course and the more I thought about the race the more excited I got…and started running race pace. Not what I had planned, but good to know my body is ready to go there.

Saturday: 5 and some change miles easy paced in the heat of the day (75 and 60% humidity feels so different from 43 degrees!).

Sunday: 8 easy miles in the early morning was the perfect way to start my Mother's Day. Was greeted by Sophia who told me to close my eyes, go in the front door and go up to bed. I had breakfast in bed after my run:) And then a fantastic day with my family.

This week is all about easy runs, a race pace tune up on Wednesday and getting ready for the Sugarloaf Marathon on SUNDAY!
