RACE DAY TOMORROW-Weather or Not You Like It

Tomorrow is RACE DAY! Unfortunately, the weather does not look promising: 80% chance of rain through the morning with temperatures never really getting above the mid 50's. I was hoping that the gorgeous weather we've been having would carry over into the weekend, but of course, no. Luckily I did half my long runs in the rain (both my 8 and 10 mile runs were in steady downpour). In the detailed forecast they said "light" rain and wind. I don't mind the "light rain," I just hope the wind isn't whipping it into my face.

I had my race day clothing all planned for good weather, now I have to rethink it, wondering what part of me, once it is wet, is going to be cold? I wonder if I should wear my compression shorts or my 3/4 tights? Gloves or no gloves? Jacket (which if its really raining will be soaked through by thirteen miles anyway) or no jacket? Should I layer a short-sleeve under a long-sleeve? The only thing I know for certain is that I will wear a hat, my Smartwool socks and my new shoes.

I could just wear what I wore on those other long and rainy runs, but it was colder and I bundled up a bit. But I hate feeling bulky on race day. Which is why I want to wear minimal gear, yet still be comfortable. I'm beginning to think though, that that may not be possible. I will probably be uncomfortable. Regardless of what I wear, I'll have to push to make my goal and get in under two hours. But a faster time means less time in the rain, and that would be a good thing.

Overall I'm feeling pretty confident, trying to keep the doubts about reaching my goal at bay by visualizing a kick-ass finish. My focus is on a strong, steady, even pace for the first ten miles, then step it up a notch in the last three for what will hopefully be the finish I want.
