Stop procrastinating, lace up your shoes and get out there!
Thirteen miles. That's how far i have to run today. It has to happen today, because I didn't do it yesterday and Mark is going out of town for three days, which means I can't procrastinate the long run any longer. Twelve miles has to happen this week, because after that I have two more weeks of long runs, probably another ten miler, then an six or eight miler before the half-marathon. And if I don't do 13 before the race, I probably will hit a wall and have a very disappointing time. Which would be, well, disappointing.
As it gets closer I've been thinking more about my pacing and what my goal time will be. My fastest time for a half is 1:46, which is pretty good. But you have to realize that I had been training for a marathon and decided to run the half instead, so my training runs were like 19 miles, so 13 miles felt like a walk in the park. The last half marathon I ran was in Phoenix in 2008, my time was 1:52 and my training resembled what I've been doing now. So I'm shooting for a sub two hour time, keeping in mind that this race has a major hill and the the race in Phoenix did not.
I will actually be relieved when the half is done. Through the summer I will probably just run 5K's, maybe a 10K, shorter distances that are easier to train for and don't require such long training runs. Honestly, its hard to find the time to get out there and run with a little baby. There are short windows where it has to happen or it won't happen at all. It really has forced me to stop procrastinating, lace up my shoes and get out there. Which is exactly what I have to do today. I've been psyching myself all morning, luckily, it is NOT raining, which has been the norm for all my long runs so far. I'm actually looking forward to getting out there and taking in Spring as I plod along the rural roads of our town.
