This morning was chilly and windy. I put shorts on, but changed to running tights after I poked my head out the window and realized it wasn't too many degrees above freezing. I'm glad I did, when we stepped out of our nice warm car after arriving at the race, we were greeted by a cold blast of wind. "This wasn't in my marriage vows," my husband said jokingly. I nearly died laughing. This race was mild: 10am start, clear skies; compared to some that I have run.
I have to give him credit, he's cheered me on in all kinds of weather and at many races that have started pre-dawn. So maybe "I promise to love, cherish and come to all your races, in good weather and bad," wasn't in our marriage vows. But he's always been there to cheer me on, and now he's taken on role as head of the cheering squad, since we've added Sophia as a member. At today's race they had more to cheer about, since I shaved two minutes off my time from the last race.
I finished the race this morning in 24:16, which means I was running 7:49 min/miles. There were a few hills, although they were relatively easy and short (unlike the mammoth mile-long hill from a few weeks ago), but I charged up them, thinking the whole time: At least I'm not pushing a jogging stroller. Again I went out to fast and didn't have as much steam for the last half mile as I would have liked. Overall, though, I'm pleased and hope that next week when I run a 5K that I know is flat, I'll be able to beat today's time and hit my 7:30 min/mile target.
