SKINS Review and {Giveaway}

I'm a big fan of using compression-gear for recovery. Typically after a hard effort or race I'll wear compression tights to bed that night to help improve blood flow and provide compression that can help reduce inflammation. Based on my experience, I think that this practice is pretty effective and I was thrilled to test out a pair ofSKINS Compression Tights

SKINS has a wide variety of compression gear, each with a different purpose. And according to their website their gear is: "It’s scientifically proven to increase muscular strength and endurance as well as decrease recovery time." They sent me a pair of tights from their DNAmic line, which is designed to be worn during activity to improve performance and endurance by increasing blood flow. Here's a description of the line from SKINS:

"Dynamic Gradient Compression technology helps you perform better for longer and recover faster. Designed for women that lead an active lifestyle, the new DNAmic range has all the compression wear you need to reach your fitness peak."

Since I usually use compression gear for recovery I was interested in trying out the tights during activity. I had a chance to test the tights both during a run and post-run. Here's how the product testing turned out:

Initial thoughts:

The fun print makes these idea for activity. Initially I thought the fabric seemed thin compared to other compression gear that I have, but considering that these are meant to be used during activity it seemed more appropriate once I wore them on a run.

Fit:

The SKINS size chart put me right between sizes and in that instance they recommend you size down, which I did. The tights fit comfortably and stayed put during activity. Although I did notice that the portions of the printed fabric became "sheer" where they were stretched over my butt. You couldn't see through them, but the black fabric turned to a light grey. The color change didn't bother me and honestly the only time sheer leggings would bother me is if I was wearing them as "street clothes." I really had to press the fabric to make it "sheer" in the picture below, but on my body the fabric just looks gray. See pictures:

Performance:

The tights worked really well for recovery when I wore them to bed and gave me the same "recovered" feeling that I am accustomed to. They also performed really well on a run. While it's been warm here in New England we've had a few cool mornings and even though it's not "tights" wearing the SKINS tights on a run was not uncomfortable or too hot.

Final Thoughts:

These tights will become my go-to for post-run recovery and for cool weather workouts where I want to improve blood circulation and performance: hill repeats and track workouts. I would recommend these to other runners looking to incorporate compression gear into their activity routine.
