First Trimester Musings of a Mother Runner
I'm officially through the first trimester--12 weeks and 6 days today! Three months down, six to go. Time definitely faded my memory of exactly what pregnancy is like, even though I've done this twice before. The first trimester was a bit of a rude awakening. To be honest, as much as I find pregnancy and birth to be a miracle, I do not enjoy being pregnant. I don't feel glowing, or womanly or happy…I feel invaded and icky. Usually "icky" defines the first trimester and "invaded" the third and in between I'm OK. Thankfully I'm entering that "OK-stage" right now, where I feel more like myself and the baby is just along for the ride. But here are a few musings from the first 12 weeks: I am already and having trouble sleeping. How much harder will it be in 4 or 5 mo when my belly is huge and my hips and knees and every other joint in my body feels out of place and obnoxious?!
Soup and grilled cheese. Nothing else sounded good. I was hungry but nothing seemed to satisfy, only soup and grilled cheese and buttered popcorn.
Why does nausea wait for 5pm to hit? Just when I need to start making dinner for my family?
I cannot get out of bed. I used to easily wake at 5am for workouts and run. Even with the same bedtime I cannot get myself to move before 6:30am. It just is soooo hard.
To run in the dark or not to. Last year I didn't think anything of heading out the door at 5am and running pre-dawn. Now I just don't feel safe so I've been running on the treadmill much more than I'd like. I'm also unwilling to run in the snow like I did last year. This could make for a long winter...
Running doesn't feel as labored as it did when I was pregnant with Jack, but maybe that's because I'm remembering running in the third trimester.
I don't remember having to pee so frequently this early on? Seriously.
I feel a heck of a lot stronger than I did running while pregnant with Jack.
BOB needs to make a triple stroller because the selection of quality triple strollers seems pretty slim. Either that or we'll need some heavy duty zip ties to connect our BOB double and single;)
Hearing the heartbeat. Makes it so real. There's a baby in there? Yes. There's a human in there. Crazy.
Would run in the dark pregnant? Any suggestions for a great triple stroller?
