Many of you have probably heard of the tragic and untimely death of wife, mom and runner, Meg Menzies on Monday morning. She was struck by a drunk driver while out on her morning run. I don't know her. But I can't stop thinking about the husband and three children she left behind, they have been on my mind more times than I can count this week.

Mostly because I think, it could be me. I run exclusively on the road. Every morning when I step out the door and onto the road I'm taking a risk that I won't come back. We take similar risks every day when we get behind the wheel of our car and drive to the grocery store or any number of things. Dwelling on the risks in life, thinking about potential tragedy at every turn is not a healthy way to live. But times like these cause us pause because we imagine the pain and it's gut wrenching.

I know that many people are dedicating their miles tomorrow to honor Meg. Whether you choose to run or not,  if you'd like to help her family in a more tangible you can make donations the the Ashland Police Foundation, which helps members of the Ashland Police Force when needed---Meg's husband is an Ashland Police Officer. Here is information I've found (and confirmed on several reputable news sources) that give the contact information. You can send donations to this foundation in Meg's name to help her family.
