Nuun Hood to Coast
Yesterday Nuun announced the members of their 2013 relay team and I was one of them! I am going to run Hood to Coast! When I made my video application I really wanted to be a part of such a great experience, but thought it was a long shot. I am so thrilled that I get to be a part of an amazing team of women who will run from a mountain to the sea. It has been hard for me to reconcile my excitement with the grief and fear I have felt with regards to the bombings in Boston. People I love deeply were at the finish line, feet away from the first blast. By the grace of God they are safe but for them, for those injured, for the families who lost loved ones, for the thousands of people who witnessed and were part of the confusion and chaos of that moment, life will never be the same. Many of them are still in that moment wondering how the world has moved on. Runners have showed their solidarity by wearing race shirts, by running miles for Boston: I guess it is all we can do when we don't know what to do. There are also tangible ways to help: consider donating. The One Fund has been set up by Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick and Boston Mayor Tom Menino (it is a legitimate fund that has been endorsed by Runners World and The Boston Herald).
More than excited, I am grateful. Grateful that my loved ones are safe. Grateful that I have the ability to run. Grateful that I get to be part of an uplifting and amazing experience.
