I'm sharing my best run as part of  Miss Zippy's#bestrun link up. Go HERE to read more #bestrun stories from other bloggers!

Monday's run almost didn't happen. I had raced a 5K Saturday and run a faster-than-I-wanted recovery/easy run on Sunday, I just didn't think I had enough in me for a good hill workout on Monday. I half-heartedly set out my running clothes on Sunday night, usually if I'm going to wake up early to run I have to do a bit of visualization the night before to psych myself up to follow through with it. Though I set my alarm I went to bed Sunday night believing that I wouldn't run. When my alarm went off on Monday morning I got up, motivated by the thought: this sets the tone for you week.

The morning air was still chilly, but not the chill of winter hanging on for dear life, it was fresh. In the air there was promise of a warm day to come. The birds were singing. The rising sun began to shine on the pine tree tops high above. As I put one foot in front of the other and eased into my run it wasn't nearly the pace that I would have wanted to see on a "hard run day," but I didn't care. I was grateful to be out there with the birds and the first light and the freshness; signs of spring.

After my hill repeats I turned down a road I've never run before. A tiny little drive, or so I thought. It wound through a neighborhood I never knew existed. I passed sleepy little houses, drinking in the sweetness of the first taste of spring.

It has been a LONG winter here in New England, just two weeks ago the ground was still covered with snow and here and there in the shadow of a ditch or the depth of the woods there is still snow. Monday's run was hopeful, like a rainbow after a storm: a promise of good things to come.
