On Saturday I took part in the Race for Recovery 5K put on my Michele of NYCRunningMama. I had no time goals for the 5k, in fact it is one of my longest runs postpartum. I knew I wanted to run it outside an NOT on the treadmill so I got in touch with Angela from HappyFitMama. If you haven't been to Angela's blog you should check it out, she has great recipes and meal planning tips--all toddler friendly, since she has twins!

It was raining and chilly on Saturday morning, but the rain didn't discourage me. When you're trying to hold back, every run is exciting. I was up at 5:30am, fed Jack and slipped out the back door before my, daughter Sophia (who usually rises at 5:30 or 6) woke up. I left early since I was meeting Angela mid run (she had a planned 10 miler) and didn't want her standing at our meeting spot waiting in the rain.

We picked the start of a local 5K and set out on the route. We chatted the whole time and the miles went quickly. I tried to be in tune with how my body was feeling but I was distracted by both our conversation and the fact that my tights (which are really meant for yoga, not running) were falling down as they got soaked by the rain. Overall I felt good. This is the second run where I've felt 100% myself: no weird sensations or sagging in the pelvic floor. We ran and easy 9 min pace for the 3.1 miles then parted ways, Angela to finish up the last 2 miles of her 10 miler and me into my car.

As I drove home I felt great! It was just past 7:30am, I was done with my run. I've missed that feeling I got from rising early in the morning and running before the rest of the world wakes up. I also thought about the hundreds of other runners who were running the Race for Recovery and I felt like I was part of something bigger--which is a really great feeling.
