Hot, Hot

I've been a blogging slacker this past week, but not a running slacker. I diligently followed the training plan I set out for my self last Monday, with the exception of Tuesday. I rested on Tuesday. A rest I thought was much deserved considering that I ran 11 miles on Sunday and did series of squat exercises, and then ran two miles on Monday. My legs needed a day off. The rest of the week I felt fast and strong, which is good considering the half-marathon is only five (FIVE!!) days away.

Honesty, I'm looking forward to being done with it, particularly because it means no more long runs. I'll be happy just to run 5K's all summer. The longer the runs get the harder it is to squeeze them in. I just barely got in a run today. And it was a hot one for sure.

It always amazes me how hot, hot feels when you've been running in the cold for so long. It really affected me today, even though I waited until 5:30pm to run it was still smoking' hot. I felt slow and sluggish and sweaty, and sweaty means chaffy--as in chafing on the legs. Ouch. Another sign that I still have a few pounds to go before I fit comfortably into my running shorts. At least I wasn't out there for too long. When I finally calculated my run and time on MapMyRun.com, I was surprised at my pace. Considering that I felt "sluggish," it was faster than I expected. Which is a good sign for the race next Saturday, I just hope it's not as hot.
