Fighting the Jiggle
I ran on the treadmill again today, and based on the snow that is now falling outside I will run on the treadmill again tomorrow and perhaps the rest of the week. "Boo hiss" to treadmill running. And for more than just the monotonous part of it: running inside means I have to wear fewer layers, and lately layers have been a good friend.
Most of the running clothing I own are size small: my running tights, my shorts, my t-shirts, everything. I still have some baby weight that seems to be hanging on for dear life--and I mean "hanging." Which means that when I put on that size small all that extra baby-hang either oozes out over the top of the waistband or jiggles incessantly against the tight fabric. Lovely.
When I go out for my runs outside I wear enough layers to make the rolls disappear. Instantly I become a sleek size small. Sweet! But when I run inside, on the treadmill there's no hiding it--shorts and a t-shirt do not deceive. When I get dressed for the gym I have few choices. My smallest shorts have been banished to the back of the drawer and my shorts selection is narrowed to two pairs of not-as-small shorts which I have been rotating through. I've decided that tank tops are not an option right now, as they would only accentuate the muffin-top, so I don my biggest t-shirt to try and cover it all up.
And to top it all off, my thighs are not the only thing that is jiggling due to ill-fitting sports wear! My bras! They aren't enough! I never had to worry about bras before. I could by the cheapest bra with little support and it would be just fine. Now I find myself contemplating investing in one of those $50 shock absorber bras that promise to hold it all in and "eliminate bounce"--if only they made full body suits.
I'm not about to spend $50 on a bra or on new running clothes that "fit." I'm hoping that with a few more weeks of running, the things I already own will start to fit again--even the shorts in the back of the drawer. But until then I haven't decided which is more ridiculous: me jiggling along, too big in my size small, split seam running shorts or me running in my outdoor gear, indoors on the treadmill.
